Business Workflow Software

Business Workflow Software is the term we prefer to use to describe our software. That’s because it portrays the fact that our solution encompasses every aspect of a business, and not just prepress and production. Here are the main areas of functionality that Business Workflow Software covers:

Sales & Presales:

  • CRM
  • RFQ (Request for Quote – a term used to describe a request for an estimate for a reasonably complex print job, normally from a sales/CSR to a skilled estimator)
  • Campaign Management
  • W2P connections
  • Marketing

Job Management:

  • Estimating
  • Inventory
  • Order management
  • Job Costing
  • Procurement
  • CAD connections
  • Integrations to General Ledger and Financials
  • Traceability
  • Carbon Footprint connections
  • Sheet Optimization

Pre-production:

  • Ganging
  • Scheduling
  • Proofing
  • Workflow Automation

Production:

  • JDF connections
  • Imposition
  • Prepress workflow
  • Press integrations
  • Shop Floor Data Capture
  • Quality Control

Post-production:

  • Invoicing and Receivables
  • Warehousing and Fulfillment
  • Packing
  • Shipping
  • Report and Business Intelligence

As you can see, the full extent of the functionality in an MIS is far more than its name suggest. It covers much more than Management Information and significantly more than just Estimating functionality. The software really does cover the whole business workflow of a printing company.

Why do we still use the term MIS as well as Business Workflow Software?

While it’s clear that Business Workflow Software is a better description for what our software does, you will find us using both phrases still, for SEO purposes – that’s because there are around 2,400 monthly Google searches for the phrase “Management Information System” and only 10 a month for the phrase “Business Workflow Software”. So while we might not agree with the limits of the phrase “print MIS” we know that’s how the market describes our product, and so we need to roll with it!

You may also hear other companies using these phrases to describe the same thing as Business Workflow Software:

  • Print Business Management Software
  • Print Business Process Software
  • Printing Business Management Software
  • Packaging Business Workflow Software
  • Label Printer / Converter Workflow Software
  • Wide Format /Large Format Printer Workflow Software
