Systemizing your print business part 1 - An introduction to Systemization
Written by Amanda Newman
As a business owner or executive, you want your company to run like a finely-tuned, well-oiled machine - whether you’re there or not. To make this happen, you need to ensure that your main role in the company is that of a leader – not someone who gets bogged down in the day to day running of a department or operation, but someone who spends time working on the business strategically.
To do this you need to Systemize all the different aspects of your business, so that everyone knows exactly what they’re supposed to do and how to do it, whether you’re there or not.
What is systemization?
Systemization is about creating a System that replaces yourself – your knowledge, your experience and your specific requirements for how you want things done in your business. The System is basically a set of interrelated procedures and processes that you have formalized in some way and trained your employees to follow.
So who benefits from Systemization and how?
Print company owners or C-suite executives who might be feeling overworked or are looking to retire, increase the valuation of the business or sell their business will benefit from Systemization. It will also provide them with a way to continually grow and improve their business, drive innovation and remove reliance on them and their key personnel.
Employees are given the tools they need to do their job via System, and friction is reduced between co-workers who might have different ways of working. You’ll also be giving them more autonomy, because by understanding what the business is working towards, they’re better able to make important business decisions on their own.
Customers will also be getting better quality products/services and a consistent experience with you, because following a System means your products/services are produced and delivered in the same way every time.
