One of Tharstern’s newest and most southern customer is Southern Colour Print, in Dunedin, New Zealand. With a history as one of the country’s oldest and most established printing companies, Southern Colour is also clearly recognised as a survivor in the local marketplace.

SA manufacturer of security products, postage stamps and commercial sheet-fed, we asked Southern Colour why they chose Tharstern and local distributor Mosaic MIS Ltd as their technology partners.

Mike Thomas, Managing Director for SCP, said, “Having come through a receivership that was primarily bought about by failures linked to the use of a previous electronic management system, we have recognised that rapid access to accurate information, which is available to all management as appropriate, is essential.” Mike went on to say, “The deciding factor was the high level of support available in New Zealand from Mosaic, together with a realistic purchase option.”

“Prior to the receivership, management relied on financial information supplied and interpreted by accountancy staff that ran the system. What has changed is that now, all tiers of management are involved in the use of the system, to the extent that all of the past mystique has disappeared. Consequently the training of staff and system knowledge (at all levels) has increased massively and everything is transparent.”

Les McKenzie, Commercial Publications Manager for SCP, was responsible for the research and eventual recommendation of a 14 user TharsternSQL to the Board. Les added “On-line ordering has become an essential part of SCP’s business and Tharstern have developed a robust approach to this essential component, to the benefit of our clients and the company.” Les explained some of the hard lessons learnt by SCP but finished by saying, “TharsternSQL promises to pave the way for a new era at Southern Colour.”
